Nyankoba Tea; Making Mornings Bearable Since 1960!

The name “Nyankoba” is derived from the word “Enkoba” which means “thunder” in the local Gusii language. Tea was first grown in the Nyankoba Catchment area in the early 1960’s and is the oldest Tea Factory in the larger Kisii/Nyamira region. Nyankoba Tea Factory, located in Borabu, Nyamira County carries the history of tea in the larger Nyanza Region.

WHEN

Tea was first grown in the Nyankoba Catchment in the early 1960’s. The construction work was commissioned on 14th May 1965 by Hon L. G. Sagini who was the Minister for Local Government. The factory was officially opened on 9th March 1966 by Hon. B. R. McKenzie, the then Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

Nyankoba Tea Factory is situated North West of Nairobi, and South East of Kisumu, the lake-side city. It is 25 kilometers from Kisii town on the Kisii –Sotik Highway. Administratively, the factory is in Borabu Division, Nyamira County.
